Today marks the beginning of a new journey, one that I embark on without my dear mother by my side. Today, I completed my three-year residency as a Doctorate of Ministry candidate. This journey began upon her passing two years ago, a time when I decided to transform my life profoundly. Although my mother often struggled with the changes I was undergoing, I cherish the moments of amazement she experienced upon realizing the genuine commitment I had made to this new path.
Tomorrow, in just fifteen minutes, it will be her birthday. Remarkably, today I attended what I believed was one more final cohort before graduation, only to discover that we have completed our program today . This unexpected milestone fills me with pride, not just for myself but for the entire "Justice League"—a group of individuals in this program who came together with a shared goal. I am immensely proud of what we have achieved collectively.
My only regret is that my mother is not here to witness the day her daughter becomes Dr. Eleanor Mae Fondren (Holden). Throughout this journey, I have faced many trials and tribulations, doubts, and moments of diminished inspiration. Yet, I persevered, guided by the prayers and hopes of my mother and our ancestors, who longed for liberation, a better tomorrow, equality, and justice.
Above all, I give thanks to God Almighty, who has paved a path for me, a path I could not foresee but which has been evident to my adversaries. Today, I thank God for His perfect timing, for this achievement is the best birthday present my mother could have received. I love her and miss her dearly, and in all that I do, I honor her. She has been a queen, paving the way for me, the princess, and has shown me the true essence of a mother's love.
