Fake Friendships

People will see you in person, shake your hand, congratulate you, smile in your face, and speak highly of your accomplishments — yet scroll past your achievements online while openly supporting others.

What many fail to realize is that selective support speaks volumes. Social media may seem small to some people, but in today’s world, acknowledgment, encouragement, and public support are extensions of relationship, loyalty, and genuine connection. When someone consistently overlooks your growth while celebrating everyone else, it creates emotional distance, whether they admit it or not.

Mentally, this can affect a person more than people understand. It can create feelings of invisibility, emotional confusion, disappointment, and even make someone question the authenticity of the relationship. Especially when you have consistently supported, celebrated, promoted, defended, or shown up for others without hesitation.

The reality is this: people support what they truly value. Consistent silence, lack of acknowledgment, and selective engagement eventually expose hidden envy, discomfort, competition, indifference, or conditional support. Genuine people do not struggle to celebrate those they claim to love or respect.

Relationships change when actions no longer align with words. Energy shifts. Trust shifts. Access shifts. Because eventually you stop focusing on what people say and begin paying attention to what they repeatedly fail to do.

Not every clap is genuine, and not every smile carries good intentions. Discernment will always reveal what loyalty tries to hide.
